The Gift of "Today".
Updated: Feb 13
Today is a new day.
Yesterday is gone and will never return.
Tomorrow will be a new today.
Scripture tells us that his mercies are new every morning. This is the way of God’s grace. Will you receive these mercies by setting aside the failures of yesterday, rejoicing in the opportunity of today while hoping in the possibilities of tomorrow?
The greatest today that ever was is a person and his name is Jesus. Everyday became Today when Jesus went to the cross and died for your sins and mine. The writer of Hebrews says, “God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.”- (Hebrews 4:7)
Simply put, “Today” presents the opportunity to run into the arms of a loving Father who does not count our sins against us but has imputed them on His son Jesus. Through this marvellous display of mercy, this indescribable gift, God has lavished a love so big on us. David’s cry echoed in Hebrews 4 is ever louder today in which he says, “Today, if you hear his voice do not harden your hearts.” - (Deuteronomy 1:26-38; Psalm 95:6-11; Hebrews 3:7-19; Hebrews 4:1-8)
As one year ends and another begins, will you receive the gift of “Today”?
Will you at last lay aside every weight and sin that easily entangles and take hold of the grace of “Today”?
Will you hold out your hands and heart to receive this free gift?
Jesus declared, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
It doesn’t matter who you are or what you have done, you can embrace Today. You are not waiting on Today. Today is waiting on you. To fully embrace Today is to embrace Jesus and his finished work at the cross. By whose blood we stand fully clothed in His righteousness. And through whom we have access to a holy God. It is to enter his rest as promised to all who believe.
The gift of "Today" will make all your days seem as though it were just yesterday that Jesus was taken up and tomorrow he returns. His presence and the blessed assurance of his promises come to life.
Don’t wait another day, another year, to make Today your day.
Our length of days are unknown but Today is assured.
Are you waiting until you have everything in order? All bad habits gone?
No, come as you are and put your hope in Jesus today.
Will you hear the Lord’s call in vain?
For He says: “In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”- 2 Corinthians 6.
My prayer for you this 2020 is that you will embrace the free gift of "Today".
It’s that you will know that you are fully loved and fully accepted by a good God. I pray that like the prodigal son, today will be the day that you come to the end of yourself and return into the arms of a loving Father whos table is prepared in expectation of a celebration with you this 2020 and then forevermore!
