A word of encouragement:
For the first time this evening, I’ve been able to listen to the gospel song that I was listening to when I received the news that my mother had passed away three months ago.
After this great loss, and as I go through a season of graceful mourning, I also realize that most of the substitution promises in the early verses of Isaiah 61 are in tune to the mourning, in despair or sad.
I would like to encourage anyone that is going through a struggle right now, a difficult season, maybe you’re feeling sad, defeated, alone, abandoned, with very little hope and like God is far far away. God is very near to you. Scripture tells us that he is near to the broken hearted.
I would also want to encourage you that this deep sorrow you may feel now will not last forever. He has promised us in his word that weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning. Based on my experience, I can assure you that this promise is true.
So dear friend, get a hold of your bible and declare these promises from Isaiah 61 over your life:
I thank you Lord for comforting me as I mourn and for providing for me as I grieve (Is61:2)
Lord Jesus, I give you my ashes and receive a crown of beauty
I receive the oil of joy running over and overflowing
Adorned in a garment of praise, I raise a hallelujah for you have taken away my spirit of despair
Your splendor oh Lord will be the glow of my life as I walk on to take hold of the great life you prepared for me before the foundations of the world.
Many were the great lessons of faith that the Lord taught me prior to this loss to equip me for this season. Some days are harder than others but one thing remains sure - our God is a faithful God. Even when we are faithless he remains faithful.
Take heart and know that Jesus is with you as he was with Martha and Mary, and Jairus, and Hannah, and Hezekiah and David and the widow at Zarephath and you and me on the cross. Knowing that this pain too shall pass like everything else that has come before it.
So, on this occasion please join me as I dance, and sing and rejoice in the Lord. Because joy comes in the mourning too.
