Have you seen my King?

Who is God?

Fear God. Serve God. Worship God. Who is God?

Do we really know who God is or have we believed in only what has been passed down to us in teaching by our parents, pastors and governments? Have we reserved for ourselves an inadequate image? Modelled according to world around us, our small groups and our local church? Do we really know who God is, the great I AM, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob? Can we say that we truly know him?

Do we know the words that describe God according to what He has said about Himself in His word? His great men and women seemed to speak to Him like He was right there with them, and God Himself said of Moses, “With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the Lord.” (Numbers 12:8). And, in Exodus 33:11, “The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.”

Indeed, we are God’s chosen possession* for He Himself has provided a way for us to learn of Him through His spoken word – the Bible. (If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. - John 5:46). He gave us his word to learn of all His facets, His qualities and His persona. To learn how we can worship Him, serve Him and communicate with Him. To discover where He is and how we, mere humans, can reach Him. To find His promises. To learn why He is good and how He is God. To discover He is of never-ending existence. To uncover ancient revelation of God, Son and Holy Spirit - our God three in one. And as the psalmist David proclaimed, “To gaze on the beauty of the Lord.” (Psalm 27).

How can we fear the one we have not known, serve whom we have not seen and worship whom we have not understood? Therefore, it is our duty as Christ’s followers to search Him out from His written word and learn of Him. When I started out on the journey to write the book 'THE A B Cs of God' little did I know how much more I would discover about God and his personality as written in the Bible. His awesome mystery revealed to men. Paul proclaimed, “I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness— the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people.” (Colossians 1:25-26).

Who is God? According to his word, God is the Almighty, the Beginning, He is Christ, our Dwelling place, the Everlasting father, the Great and Holy one, Invisible and Just, the King and Lord, Mighty and Near, the Only-begotten, our Rock and Saviour, the Truth, Upright and Victorious, he is the only Way.

Who are you serving?

“Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn away and worship other gods and bow down to them. Then the Lord’s anger will burn against you… Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as a symbol on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth. “(Deuteronomy 11)
