The Gift of Repentance

In this podcast message, I sit down with Apostle Anthony Wilson from Love Thy Nay Bor podcast. A podcast that focuses on spreading the gospel and teaching about Jesus Christ in the unique and powerful style of interview.

Some of what we talked about was: what repentance is, what it's not, the fruit of repentance and repentance as the wheel of transformation for the believer.

The New testament word for repentance in the Greek is the word “metanoia” which means – a change of mind, a complete conversion, a turn, change of behaviour, or a new course, a completely altered view of life and behaviour.

We talked about, the fruit of repentance, which is that inward change that makes an outward expression. The exterior evidence of a changed heart.

We made reference to the story of Zacchaeus, when he had an encounter with Jesus, immediately he says - “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.” – the fruit of a changed heart, the fruit of repentance. And Jesus says to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham; for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

Often, repentance is talked about from the perspective of dread and fear.

Today, because of what Jesus has done, the true repentance the father seeks is that which comes from the heart, an inward change that changes our outward expression. In Mathew 15:8, we find Jesus speaking against the Pharisees and teachers of the law, quoting Isaiah he says – “these people honour me with their lips but their hearts are far from me”

"As we grow and receive revelation from the word of God, as we discover the truth about who God is and who he says that we are in his word.. we are constantly changing our minds. Reprogramming our old thinking and replacing it with truth from his word.
The revelation we receive brings about repentance.
This is repentance toward God. As this happens, truth is the activator for repentance that leads to transformation out of which the fruit of repentance is expressed. "

Until the Lord returns, which is imminent, and soon, the door to enter in is open.

We can do nothing to work for something that has been made available only by God’s grace. It’s a gift from start to finish.

The good news that Jesus came preaching is still the same life transforming good news today – Change your mind, turn from sin toward God, accept the good news! Come home.

“Come now, let us settle the matter,”

says the Lord.

“Though your sins are like scarlet,

they shall be as white as snow;

though they are red as crimson,

they shall be like wool." - Isaiah 1:18
