Its a choice
It’s the truth which we come to know that sets us free.
This verse indicates we have a choice to continue in the truth about Christ, to abide in Christ and his word, and that by our continuing we shall know the truth and the end thereof we shall be set free.
The result of our continuing is - our freedom.
The word of God never fails.
In Mark 9:23, Jesus said, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” Whosoever will press in and take hold of the promises of God, believe them and act on them. Not simply as a hearer but as a doer too continuing therein.
2. The word of God is forever
Jesus said heaven and earth shall pass away but the word of God shall not pass away.
The word of God abides forever. The same word from the Bible has been taught for generations. No matter how many times we have heard the word of God as we continue we are always able to catch fresh revelation that causes us to grow.
Scripture says in Hebrews 6:18, “It is impossible for God to lie” so we can trust that whatever God has written in his word he will perform. And as we continue as the word comes alive and becomes a reality we come to that place that sweet place where we can taste and see that the Lord is good.
3. Through the word we are born, we are saved, we grow.
John 1 says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
Everything was made by the word. Creation came forth as God spoke.
Through the word of God we are born. 1 Peter 1:23 says, “having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,”
The word lives forever, by it we are born and by it we grow.
The word of God is that nourishment that we can feed on to mature from babes attaining to spiritual maturity as we are sanctified and transformed.
“God chose us to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.” - 2 Thessalonians 2:13
4. Through continuing in the word we gain an understanding of our inheritance, how to access it and how to possess it.
In Acts 20:32, as Paul says farewell to the believers in Ephesus, his parting words to the ministers whom he had spent time with sharing the good news of God’s grace he says, “So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.”
Through the word our Spirit is nourished, we thrive in all things Spiritual, we have life, and according to this verse the word is able to give us an inheritance!
We have an inheritance in the word of God and the only way to find it is in His word.
5. Its is through continuing in the word that we are able to defeat the enemy.
" Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;" - Ephesians 6
We understand our spiritual armour of protection through the word of God and it is the word of God on which we stand, having done all.
We must persevere in faith, in the word of God. Doing his will, for he is faithful and able to give us all that he has promised us in his word.
As we continue in the word of God, we are liberated, transformed, made whole, our are minds are renewed and we are transformed from glory to glory.
One brick at the time, we keep adding until we are built up mature attaining to the full measure of Christ.
“Only let us hold true to what we have attained.” - Philippians 3:16
